Marco Silva is yet to be confirmed as Benfica coach, but is already working behind the scenes to shape his staff and prepare arrivals.

He is expected to be unveiled next week, with the process still linked to Real Madrid’s elections on Sunday, seven June, according to A Bola. The timeline depends on Florentino Pérez’s possible re-election, a scenario that could open the door for José Mourinho to return to the Bernabéu.

Mourinho has been associated with the Madrid project through campaign material, including a video in which he appears wearing the club’s shirt. Clarity over his immediate future, and any knock-on effect for Benfica, is not anticipated before Monday.

In parallel, Silva is mapping a technical and structural reorganisation for 2026/27, aiming to steer the club back to trophies.

He is expected to be joined by assistant Gonçalo Santos, fitness coach Gonçalo Pedro and goalkeeping coach Fernando Ferreira. Further additions remain under consideration, including Greek assistant Antonis Lemonakis and a possible move for Ricardo Rocha, who is currently part of Mourinho’s staff.
