Former Arsenal player Marouane Chamakh has sent one of his shirts to New York mayor Zohran Mamdani, a committed Arsenal fan.
Chamakh played for Arsenal from 2010 to 2013, making 67 appearances and scoring 14 goals.
“I knew he was an Arsenal supporter, it warmed my heart. Seeing him support Morocco in the first match, which he watched in a Moroccan restaurant, gave me chills. So I took it upon myself to send him one of my last Champions League shirts.” He was speaking to TFT Morocco.
In late November, Mamdani said he wakes each morning thinking of Sébastien Squillaci, Pascal Cygan and Marouane Chamakh.
Chamakh has also promised to try to give him a signed Morocco shirt next summer at the 2026 World Cup.
The gesture might even sway the mayor to back Morocco at the Africa Cup of Nations, although he was born and spent his early years in Uganda, another nation in the competition.
