Mikey Johnston is expected to report fully fit for Albion’s pre-season this summer. The 27-year-old winger has stepped up his recovery from long-term injury.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, head coach James Morrison said Johnston recently completed his first running session, is progressing well, and will have a pre-season and be ready.
Johnston suffered a broken ankle in Morrison’s first match as caretaker at Oxford United in late February and required surgery. The Baggies then went 10 matches unbeaten to secure Championship status without their leading provider.
By Christmas and into the new year, Johnston had nine assists, among the highest in the division, with only five players later surpassing that total. Morrison’s switch to use Isaac Price on the left proved inspired, and Price became central to the safety push.
The winger is expected to rejoin team training in late June. He has two years remaining on the deal signed after a £3 million permanent move to The Hawthorns in 2024. The Republic of Ireland international had been close to a £5 million switch to Flamengo last summer before the Rio club withdrew.
