According to L’Equipe, Monaco want to keep Simon Adingra but are unlikely to trigger Sunderland’s €17million, around £14.8million, purchase option.
The Ivory Coast international joined on loan in January after struggling for minutes on Wearside, then made 16 appearances, 11 starts, largely at left wing-back.
The report says Monaco’s hierarchy have been pleased with his impact and would be tempted to retain him beyond 30 June, but the fee is seen as unrealistic amid falling Ligue 1 TV income and uncertainty over European competition.
As a result, Monaco are exploring alternatives, including seeking to renegotiate the fee with Sunderland or proposing another loan. Adingra remains under contract with the Black Cats until 2030.
Monaco paid a €1million loan fee in January. The report also notes a €7.5million option in Wout Faes’ loan from Leicester City, and says Monaco are interested in keeping him without necessarily activating that clause.
For Sunderland, Adingra’s future is one to monitor this summer. His regular involvement in Monaco has sustained his value and profile, but the French club’s reluctance to pay the option may prompt fresh talks if they want him to stay.
