L'Equipe reports Monaco want to keep Simon Adingra but are unlikely to trigger the option to buy in his Sunderland loan.
The Ivory Coast international joined in January after limited minutes on Wearside, then made 16 appearances for Monaco, starting 11, mainly at left wing-back. His loan runs until 30 June.
That clause is set at €17 million, about £14.8 million, and Monaco already paid a €1 million loan fee in January. The same report adds Wout Faes' loan from Leicester carries a €7.5 million option, about £6.5 million.
Monaco are said to be operating under financial strain due to falling Ligue 1 TV income and uncertainty over European competition, so the likelihood of activating Adingra's full clause is described as very low.
Alternative solutions are being considered, which could involve a reduced fee or another loan. The situation is complicated by Adingra remaining under contract at Sunderland until 2030. Monaco would also like to keep Faes without necessarily using his clause.
For Sunderland, his future is a live issue this summer. Adingra arrived with a strong reputation but did not fully establish himself before January, and Monaco's stance may prompt fresh talks if they want him to stay.
