Nico Schlotterbeck marked his return to the Borussia Dortmund squad with a 1-0 win over Wolfsburg to see out Matchday 4 of the Bundesliga. BVB’s captain suffered a meniscus injury back in April, and only returned to team training less than two weeks ago.
Speaking to DAZN after he completed 90 minutes, Schlotterbeck discussed his rehabilitation and comeback.
“It was a long time and it was hard for me, challenging even, because it was the first time in my career that I was injured for so long. I have worked towards this match against Wolfsburg over the last two to three weeks. The coach asked me yesterday whether I was up for it and how much I could give. I said: Put me in. I worked hard for this for six months and am extremely happy. I tried to play the passes that I feel comfortable with. Friends and family are here. Now we will enjoy the evening together and tomorrow the focus switches to Mainz”
Speaking on Borussia Dortmund’s performances and a switch to a back three, Schlotterbeck believes something good is brewing as they enjoy an unbeaten start to the season.
“Something good is building. Since we switched to a back three in the game in Leipzig, we haven’t lost a match. Had we not had those 10 minutes in St. Pauli, it would be four from four. Now we keep going step by step. The important thing is to keep up with Bayern.”
