Nottingham Forest have sacked Sean Dyche at 12.30am on Thursday and turned to Vitor Pereira as they search for a fourth head coach of a chaotic season, prioritising a return to unity.

According to NY Times, talks with Vitor Pereira, who took charge of Wolves in December 2024, advanced on Wednesday night, and Forest believe he could revive togetherness for the final 12 league games and a Europa League play-off with Fenerbahce.

Appointed in late December 2024 with nine points from 16 and in the bottom three, he had Wolves 12 clear by early April. He galvanised players and fans, celebrating wins with supporters, a routine that inspired “first the points, then the pints”.

Dyche never won over supporters in under four months. Boos followed a flat 0-0 with Wolves on Wednesday, after which owner Evangelos Marinakis met senior players and called for a reset.

Training was exacting, with strict dress rules that even banned hats, and sessions some felt were too focused on running. Confidence in his game approach ebbed despite attempts to lighten the mood.

Dyche said social media rewards negativity, yet poor performances hardened opinion.

January brought no experienced reinforcements he wanted, such as Dwight McNeil and Lewis Dunk, and a £200m summer intake felt underused. £30m recruits James McAtee and Dilane Bakwa have had few starts.

Forest want Pereira to be their 10th permanent head coach since 2017. They play next Thursday in Türkiye, hoping a new voice can steady a listing campaign.
