Following the recurrence of his pubic discomfort, FC Barcelona confirmed earlier today that Lamine Yamal will be out of action for two to three weeks.
Building on that, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has now announced that the 18-year-old will not be a part of the Spain squad for their games against Georgia and Bulgaria.
The 18-year-old winger was one of five Barcelona stars named in the La Roja squad, along with Pedri, Ferran Torres, Dani Olmo, and Pau Cubarsi.
But with his injury being confirmed, the attacker has been ruled out of the World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and Bulgaria.
“Following a request for medical information from the Spanish Football Federation’s medical staff yesterday, FC Barcelona’s medical staff, after the official squad was published, sent a report stating that the player had discomfort in his groin area,” the statement read.
“Therefore, in order to ensure a speedy and risk-free recovery, as is the case with all Spanish national team players, he has been removed from the squad.”
There has been some tension between Barcelona and the Spain camp over how the youngster’s injury during the last international break was handled.
After all, Spain boss Luis de la Fuente played the 18-year-old winger for more than 140 minutes across two games even though he had been carrying some discomfort at the time.
It eventually led to him missing four games for Barcelona, and now he is again out for a couple of weeks, with the hope being that he returns in time for the Clasico on 26 October.
