According to German outlet Bild, the R's are unwilling to recall the Slovenian forward following a tough start to life away from West London for the 26-year-old.

Celar joined Düsseldorf in the summer on a season-long loan, with the option to sign the former Roma man on a permanent deal for €2.5m. However, the two clubs find themselves at odds as the January transfer window enters its second week of action.

QPR refuse to recall Zan Celar from Fortuna Düsseldorf

QPR signed the 6ft 1in striker just a year prior to his move to Germany, with then-R's boss Marti Cifuentes sanctioning the deal to bring Celar to England from Swiss outfit Lugano.

However, he struggled to find his feet in the Championship, and after scoring just twice in 19 league appearances for Rangers, he made the switch back to continental Europe in the summer. Yet, Bild have reported that Fortuna Düsseldorf are now trying to terminate that loan deal and send him back to Loftus Road after just 314 minutes in the 2. Bundesliga.

Currently occupying the relegation play-off spot in Germany's second division, Düsseldorf may have to find Celar a new club themselves if they do wish to offload him, while QPR continue to battle for a play-off spot following an excellent 3-0 victory over the administration-stricken Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday afternoon.

Nevertheless, for the 26-year-old, he will be looking for a resolution to the situation as soon as possible with his game-time limited throughout 2025/26.

Zan Celar's QPR career looks to be all but over

Julien Stephan is yet to see a clear example of what Celar can do on the pitch for QPR. However, it already seems unlikely that the Frenchman will give the striker an opportunity to impress following a disastrous few months in Germany.

The 17-time capped Slovenia international made two appearances in the Championship in August before leaving on loan, and with Rumarn Burrell and Richard Kone complementing one another so well, it seems unlikely that there will be a change to the strikeforce at Loftus Road.

Therefore, Celar could soon find himself in desperate need of a new home as Düsseldorf will almost certainly not agree to the option to buy the forward in the summer transfer window following a tough campaign.

Nevertheless, with plenty of international experience as well as goals in the top flight in Switzerland, there is the opportunity for the player to turn his future around and a move back to the Swiss Super League could be the perfect place to do so.

His former team, Lugano, are currently in a battle for the title and, after scoring 51 goals in 118 games for the club, it could be the perfect destination for Celar to get his career back on track after a difficult year and a half following his move to the Championship in the summer of 2024.
