Napoli striker Rasmus Hojlund has revealed the three reasons that convinced him to make a drastic U-turn on his Manchester United future.
Hojlund appears transformed from the player who departed United on the final day of the summer transfer window.
He has taken well to life at Napoli, scoring four goals in six games for the side across all competitions. Hojlund’s most recent strike for the Partenopei was a winning one to complete their comeback over Genoa on Sunday.
However, despite his massive turnaround, it’s believed that Hojlund initially had no interest in leaving United to join Napoli.
United signed Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko but this did not deter Hojlund, who remained adamant that he wanted to remain at Old Trafford and fight for his place.
But Ruben Amorim froze him out of the team once the season started, making it clear that the Dane’s services were no longer needed.
Hojlund reluctantly agreed to join Napoli, but it’s a move he’s certainly not regretting so far.
The 22-year-old has now revealed what motivated his decision to finally sign for the reigning Serie A champions.
The United loanee told Napoli Radio Kiss [as quoted by Manchester Evening News], “[Antonio] Conte is a top coach.”
“I came here because I knew this was an important step for me.”
He added, “Napoli is a great club, and a wonderful place to live. It’s exactly what I need right now in my career.”
Napoli have an option to permanently sign Hojlund for around £38m, but this becomes an obligation if the Italian giants secure Champions League football.
