Real Madrid have cut ties with the Royal Spanish Football Federation over domestic officiating, citing the late decision not to award a penalty for a challenge on Kylian Mbappe against Girona as further justification.

Diario AS reports that relations with the federation have cooled again in recent months, reflected by UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin sitting beside Florentino Perez during the Bayern Munich match while Rafael Louzan was several rows back.

Madrid drew 1-1 against Girona on Friday night, a third straight game without a win. Barcelona could open up a nine-point lead if they beat Espanyol. Alvaro Arbeloa voiced fury at the Mbappe call and his side have taken only three wins from their last seven league outings.

Late last season, under new RFEF president Rafael Louzan, there were moves to make peace, including several meetings with General Manager Jose Angel Sanchez. Madrid were handed a role in reforms to the Referees' Committee (CTA), with Fran Soto replacing Luis Medina Cantalejo as chief.

Madrid did not publicly row back on their refereeing campaign. They regard La Liga as 'adulterated' and want minimal contact with the RFEF until the refereeing system is completely overhauled.
