Real Madrid defender back in team training after lengthy injury-enforced absence | OneFootball

Yesterday, it was reported that Ferland Mendy will soon return to partial team training, which served as a huge boost for Real Madrid heading into the Clasico later this month.

The Frenchman has been struggling with an injury for the better part of the year, with his last game being the Copa Del Rey final against Barcelona last season.

Ferland Mendy returns to training

A recent report from football journalist Sergio Quirante, Ferland Mendy has trained with the first-team this afternoon.

The report adds that the left-back has received medical clearance as well, which is quite encouraging for coach Xabi Alonso.

The Real Madrid coach, after all, is dealing with a major injury crisis in defence heading into this weekend’s Getafe contest, with Dean Huijsen already being ruled out.

The Spaniard is joined by Trent, Dani Carvajal and Antonio Rudiger on the injury list, though Real Madrid are hopeful at least three of them might return in action for the Barcelona game on October 26.

Having now returned from team training, Mendy’s job is to get back to his rhythm as soon as possible so that he can be cleared to return to the pitch as well.

If the Frenchman can gather pace within the next couple of weeks, he could once again emerge as a key defensive option for Alonso.

Even if the Frenchman doesn’t return to full fitness this month, his availability sometime later during the season could be useful as well, as it will only help Alonso shuffle his pack better.
