Real Madrid were in crisis mode last Monday, but after victories over Kairat Almaty and Villarreal returned them to form and the top of the La Liga table, things are a lot brighter at the Santiago Bernabeu. The one lingering concern may be over Kylian Mbappe.
Their star man this season notched another goal on Saturday in their 3-1 victory, making it nine goals and two assists in his eight appearances. Mbappe was withdrawn in the 83rd minute though, after receiving treatment on the pitch, and Xabi Alonso decided not to take any risks.
After the match, Alonso confirmed that Mbappe had suffered an injury, and said that they would be monitoring his progress in tandem with the French national team. Alonso was unsure over whether he would even travel to Clairefontaine.

Despite the concerns over his ankle, MD have confirmed that Mbappe will indeed travel to meet up with Les Bleus. At that point his ankle will be examined by the France medical department, and a decision on his next steps will be made.
Los Blancos would no doubt be crossing their fingers that Mbappe is released from international duty, with a heavy calendar on the way. Real Madrid travel to Getafe after the break, and then host both Juventus and Barcelona in their following fixtures, for which Alonso will need Mbappe firing on all cylinders.
One factor that may work in their favour is that the French national team are under their microscope for their handling of players’ fitness. After Ousmane Dembele and Desire Doue were ruled out on France duty, Paris Saint-Germain were publicly furious with what they perceived as mishandling of their star forwards last month.
