The Real Madrid squad has gone through widespread changes since the appointment of Xabi Alonso as head coach.
One of the striking changes has been witnessed in defence, with the new coach bringing more youth exuberance through the signings of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dean Huijsen and Alvaro Carreras.
This has played a key role in helping Real Madrid soften their position on veterans such as Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba, with both players in contention to leave the club at the end of the season.
However, according to Jorge Picon, Rudiger’s priority is to remain at Real Madrid and the defender has no desire to leave Santiago Bernabeu.

In fact, Rudiger has not ruled out accepting a contract renewal at Real Madrid, should the club offer it. His current deal at the Bernabeu expires at the end of the season.
The German international joined Real Madrid in 2022. Since then, he has featured in 157 competitive matches, notably playing a key role in helping the team secure the Champions League title in 2024.
But as Real Madrid become more comfortable with younger options such as Huijsen, Raul Asencio and Joao Martinez, it is thought that Rudiger’s days at the club could soon come to an end, more so given his recent fitness problems.
The German, for his part, is ready to continue his chapter if Real Madrid if the club so wishes. But for now, his immediate focus is to return to full fitness by the end of the year.
