Real Sociedad base at The Belfry, four-time Ryder Cup venue | OneFootball

Real Sociedad have based their pre-season camp at The Belfry near Birmingham for a six-day stay, with friendlies against Wolves and Aston Villa in Walsall, north of the city. The squad arrived yesterday afternoon on a charter from Noain.

The team are lodged at the Hotel Belfry, a 1977 golf resort formed from a 13th-century manor, set between Sutton Coldfield, Curdworth and Kingsbury. According to Diario Vasco, the location offers seclusion away from the city.

The Brabazon course has hosted the Ryder Cup in Europe a record four times, in 1985, 1989, 1993 and 2002. The British Masters is slated for late August, with limited tickets costing over 100 pounds per day.

Packages start at 249 pounds for one night and 18 holes, rising to 400 pounds per person for two nights and two rounds. The grounds feature meadows, lakes and two aquaparks.

Whether Remiro fits in a few holes remains to be seen, as he plays often, including tournaments away from Donostia. Remiro, from Cascante, is without Brais, another Real player adept at the sport who might have acted as caddie.

Pellegrino Matarazzo has scheduled two sessions at the Aston Villa Training Ground, five minutes from the hotel, with facilities akin to Zubieta. They are planned for tomorrow and Monday at 13.00, with a match today and Aston Villa on Tuesday. The team fly home on Wednesday, while president Jokin Aperribay has not travelled and football director Erik Bretos will meet Olabe, Villa’s head of football.
