Mohamed Salah's on the brink of new chapter with Egypt after guiding the Pharaohs to 2 - 0 victory over Ethiopia in the 2026 FIFA World cup qualifiers.

Salah leads the way once again

The Liverpool star opened the scoring in the 41 minute from the penalty spot after Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet was fouled in the box.

With this goal, Salah's now scored 7 times in the ongoing qualifiers leading Group A’s scoring charts. More significantly, he reached 18 career goal in World cup qualifying overtaking Mohamed Aboutrika’s 14 to become Egypt’s all time top scorer in the competition.

Records keep tumbling for Salah

Salah's also contributed the most goal involvements for Egypt in the current qualifiers tallying 7 goal & 3 assist (10 total) surpassing Trezeguet’s 6 contributions.

The strike lifted Salah’s international tally to 61 goal leaving him one short of equaling Zlatan Ibrahimovic & Ronaldo Nazario and just 4 away from Didier Drogba.

He also sits seven goals shy of both Hossam Hassan & Luis Suarez with 69 goal needed to become Egypt’s all time top scorer.

On the African stage overtaking Hossam Hassan would place Salah 3rd among the continent’s greatest scorers trailing only Kinnah Phiri (71 goal) & record holder Godfrey Chitalu (78 goal).

Victory in Tuesday’s showdown against Burkina Faso would mathematically seal the Pharaohs ticket to the 2026 World cup marking their 4th appearance in history.
