Wolves head coach Rob Edwards says Joao Gomes was not risked against Burnley due to a knee issue, with the midfielder left out for the final-day trip to Turf Moor.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, the Brazilian is expected to depart in the summer, with Atletico Madrid in talks for his signature.

Ahead of kick-off, the head coach said: “Joao is feeling his knee.”

“He didn’t train yesterday and we decided it wasn’t right to push (him).”

Jean-Ricner Bellegarde was also omitted, with Edwards adding: “It’s sickness, he didn’t report in yesterday and we sent the doctor out to go and see him.

“He’s got a sickness bug so we had to keep him away from the lads.”
