Santos forward Robson de Souza Junior, known as Robinho Jr, has asked to alter the name on his shirt and in club materials for the second time this month.

According to Diario Do Peixe, he adopted Robinho Jr when promoted last season, taking the number seven as a tribute to his father, Robinho.

On four July, in a 3-0 friendly win over União São João at Pacaembu, he chose to appear as Juninho, updating the press kit and shirt. He scored from the spot after being fouled.

Family and friends have long called him Juninho, and the change had been requested by his father. He regards names and numbers as secondary to football.

Back in official competition, the squad list for Botafogo at Nilton Santos on Thursday, 16 July at 19:30, in the Brasileirão, again lists him as Robinho Jr, and he is expected to continue as such.

He was already known as Juninho in the academy, and team-mates and coach Cuca often refer to him that way.

Integrated into first-team training from early 2025, he was registered for the Paulistão and provided an assist in a 3-1 friendly win over Desportiva Ferroviária. His official debut came in a 1-0 victory over Flamengo at Vila Belmiro, in the 14th round of the Brasileirão on 16 July, and he ended last season with one assist in 15 league appearances.

This year he has five Paulista matches, four in the Brasileirão, two in the Sul-Americana, plus that friendly. Overall he has 23 senior games and one assist. Aged 18, he remains eligible for the under-20s for two more years and is contracted until 30 March 2031.
