Russell Martin has made attacking recruits Leicester City's priority this summer, insisting character will decide who comes in.

According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, Conor Chaplin and Alex McCarthy have arrived, while Harry Winks, Jannik Vestergaard, Victor Kristiansen and Abdul Fatawu have departed, leaving numbers thin.

In pre-season he has leaned on the academy, with Riley Carr, Tommy Neale, Lorenz Hutchinson and Kirsten Otchere all impressing after first-team chances.

The window has a little over five weeks left and League One begins in three. City currently have no senior striker on the books, a gap expected to be addressed before the deadline.

Martin said the clearest needs are both wide roles and a number nine. He believes competition is strong in the back four and midfield. He added they will strengthen the top line, but only if the fits are right.

He wants additions who buy into the culture and game model, who aim to be part of the club’s hoped-for success and support the young players. Chaplin and McCarthy have already brought experience and character, qualities he expects from any further signings before 1 September.

Talent and data can put players on Leicester’s radar, he said, yet character and a genuine desire to play for City will ultimately drive any deals.
