San Sebastián erupts as Real Sociedad celebrate Copa del Rey triumph | OneFootball

San Sebastián became a sea of txuri-urdin as Real Sociedad paraded the Copa del Rey, with around 100,000 people honouring the La Cartuja heroes.

According to Diario Vasco, the euphoria that began in Seville with a peaceful, joyous show of support and a title won by a squad largely formed in the academy rolled into Donostia. Official estimates put 40,000 at City Hall and 60,000 along the route.

The open-top bus left Anoeta shortly before six in the evening, followed by the coaches carrying staff. Aritz Elustondo led the revelry, flares were lit and low branches caused a few scares. Demand was such that the home shirts sold out in the official store.

The route swept through the city to Alderdi Eder, where the weather played its part. A children’s Tamborrada, an aurresku on the steps, greetings from the mayor, the lehendakari and the Diputada General, then the Cup held aloft from the central balcony set the tone.

Captain Mikel Oyarzabal said the smiles on supporters’ faces mattered more than the trophy. Coach P. Matarazzo addressed the crowd in Euskera, read from notes, and said this was only the beginning. Marrero asked for octopus for dinner as Elustondo reprised Imanol’s famed chant from 2021, before the squad danced to We Are The Champions, Freed From Desire and Txuri-urdin.

Elustondo also saluted Sergio Francisco and Iosu Rivas, then named every player by shirt number, from 1 Remiro to the seven Sanse call-ups, with Goti present. Sadiq was missing, and the crowd called for him.

Take Kubo called it the happiest day of his life and promised they would have an unforgettable time. Matarazzo closed by vowing no one would lift the Cup higher than him. The triumph came on 18 April 2026, with the home celebration on 20 April.
