Santos will assess the work of executive Alexandre Mattos and head coach Juan Pablo Vojvoda after Sunday 15’s game against Velo Clube, the final round of the Campeonato Paulista first phase. Vojvoda remains in charge for that match, with any continuation beyond it dependent on what follows.
According to Diario Do Peixe, club directors met on Friday 13 to review performances and map the plan for the rest of the year. Internally, reaching the State knockout rounds could prove decisive for the staff’s continuity.
Santos must beat Velo Clube and still rely on a combination of other results to reach the quarter-finals. If they fall short, changes in the coaching setup are considered likely.
Mattos’s position is also under review. The meeting covered a possible squad overhaul, including exits for players seen as without a place at the club. At least four signings are being pursued, two centre-backs and two defensive midfielders.
The schedule could open up after the Velo Clube fixture. If Santos advance, they would have at least seven days without a game before the next stage. If not, their next outing would be on 26, against Vasco, in the Campeonato Brasileiro.
So far this season Santos have played 10 matches, with two wins, four draws and four defeats. In the Paulistão they approach the final round at risk of early elimination. In the Campeonato Brasileiro they have one point from three games and sit 19th.
