Chelsea have just gone on their worst run for almost 114 years after losing five league games in a row without scoring a single goal.

The Blues were beaten 3-0 by Brighton last night, meaning they’ve won just one of their last eight games in all competitions, losing the other seven.

In the Premier League, it’s one win in their last nine games, with Liam Rosenior’s side last scoring at the beginning of March in that win away to Aston Villa.

Since then Chelsea have lost 1-0 at home to Newcastle, 3-0 away to Everton, 3-0 at home to Manchester City, 1-0 at home to Manchester United, and then 3-0 away to Brighton yesterday evening.

Chelsea’s worst run since 1912

Chelsea are not just bad right now, they’re in serious trouble, with last night’s result actually seeing Brighton overtake them in the table.

The Blues are now down to 7th place, seven points behind Liverpool in fifth, meaning they’re surely set to miss out on Champions League qualification.

Considering how much money CFC have spent, particularly on what looked like some talented young attacking players who’ve completely flopped, this is unacceptable.

Chelsea’s misfiring attack

Chelsea brought in two new strikers and three new wingers last summer, and there’s not really a single success story there.

Going from the fees listed by Wikipedia, the west London giants spent £202.5m on Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Alejandro Garnacho, Jamie Gittens, and Estevao Willian.

Pedro has, in fairness, done quite well, with 14 Premier League goals. The rest have four league goals between them – two for Estevao, one each for Delap and Garnacho, and zero for Gittens.

Others like Cole Palmer and Pedro Neto have also gone backwards, so it’s really hard to know how Chelsea rebuild after such dire performances from so many players signed for big money.
