Sunderland are in talks with Eyüpspor over a potential move for striker Ahmed Abdullahi, 22. Sunderland Echo understands discussions are ongoing.
Abdullahi was left out of Régis Le Bris’ first-team squad for Saturday’s 5-1 pre-season win over York City. He instead featured for the under-21s against South Shields, indicating his current standing.
The Nigerian joined from Belgian side Gent in August 2024 on a four-year contract, but injuries have so far kept him from a competitive senior debut for Sunderland.
He previously had trials with Marseille and Borussia Dortmund in 2021 before signing for Gent. He has represented Nigeria at under-20 level and was selected for the 2023 Africa Under-20 Cup of Nations.
His pathway appears limited at present, with Brian Brobbey and Wilson Isidor among the senior forwards ahead of him. Young striker Trey Ogunsuyi has also featured in pre-season, while extra Premier League, domestic cup and European fixtures could open chances across the squad.
A switch to Türkiye’s Super Lig with Eyüpspor could offer regular senior football after a frustrating spell on Wearside. No agreement has been finalised, with the club still assessing a deal.
