Sunderland are in discussions with Super Lig club Eyüpspor in Türkiye over a potential move for striker Ahmed Abdullahi, Sunderland Echo understands.
The 22-year-old was not in Régis Le Bris’ first-team squad for Saturday’s 5-1 pre-season win over York City. He instead featured for the under-21s against South Shields, signalling his current standing.
The Nigerian forward joined from Gent in August 2024 on a four-year deal at the Stadium of Light. Injury setbacks have so far prevented a competitive senior appearance.
He previously spent time on trial with Marseille and Borussia Dortmund in 2021 before signing for Gent. Abdullahi has represented Nigeria at under-20 level and was selected for the 2023 Africa Under-20 Cup of Nations.
His first-team pathway currently appears limited, with Brian Brobbey and Wilson Isidor among the senior options ahead of him. Young striker Trey Ogunsuyi has also featured in pre-season, and extra Premier League, domestic cup and European fixtures could create chances across the squad.
A move to Eyüpspor could offer regular senior football after a frustrating spell on Wearside. No agreement has been finalised, with the Super Lig club exploring a deal.
