Premier League clubs spent an astonishing £3 billion in the summer of 2025, obliterating the record for a single transfer window.

The boom times are evidently back as many teams chose to flash the cash on new signings like never before. Here the top-flight sides who went above and beyond to improve their ranks this year.

The biggest spending Premier League clubs in summer 2025:

5. Man Utd – £232.4m

Manchester United began as they meant to go, buying Matheus Cunha from Wolves for £62.5m very early in the window. Bryan Mbeumo followed for a similar amount in July, but then it went a bit quiet at Old Trafford for a while there.

Benjamin Sesko arrived for a £74m fee from Leipzig a few weeks later, but the only other signing between then and the end of the window was goalkeeper Senne Lemmens from Royal Antwerp. No new midfielders or specialist wing-backs for Ruben Amorim’s system.

Diego Leon, an 18-year-old left-back, was also signed in July, although that deal had already been arranged in January.

4. Newcastle United – £265.3m

What a miserable summer that was for Newcastle United. The Magpies missed out on a plethora of attacking targets, while Alexander Isak went on strike to force through a move to Liverpool.

The striker did eventually leave in a deal worth up to £130m after Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa were signed for big money. Anthony Elanga, Jacob Ramsey and Malick Thiaw also moved to St James’ Park, but questions remain over whether they have strengthened enough to compete in the UEFA Champions League this season.

3. Arsenal – £267m

After a fairly humdrum window last summer, Arsenal went all out to put the finishing touches on what they hope will a Premier League-winning squad. The midfield was bolstered by Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard, Noni Madueke came in to provide wing depth, and Cristhian Mosquera will provide injury cover at centre-back.

But it was the long-awaited arrival of a new striker that dominated the headlines for the Gunners, as Viktor Gyokeres made a £64.2m move from Sporting CP. It has felt like the missing piece of Mikel Arteta’s puzzle for several years now; whether he fits into place or not remains to be seen.

That appeared to be the end of their business until an injury to Kai Havertz forced them into a rethink. They mobilised quickly to sign Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace, snatching the playmaker from underneath Spurs, making the £67.5m deal all the sweeter.

2. Chelsea – £296.5m

Yet another summer splurge from BlueCo saw Chelsea spend close to £300m. They have now spent at least £200m in six of the last eight transfer windows.

Estevao Willian’s arrival had already been agreed last year, while Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Mamadou Sarr, Jamie Gittens, Jorrel Hato, Alejandro Garnacho and Facundo Buonanotte were also among the incomings.

Chelsea managed to come out of the window with a surplus, though, as they raked in over £300m in sales.

1. Liverpool – £446.4m

Liverpool made a real statement this summer, breaking their transfer record twice after winning the Premier League last season.

Florian Wirtz was signed in a deal worth up to £116m, before Alexander Isak rocked up to Anfield on Deadline Day for a transfer fee that could reach £130m. There was also a lot of money spent on Jeremi Frimpong, Milos Kerkez and Hugo Ekitike as Arne Slot looks to build on his early success.

Their total outlay of £446m is the most ever spent by a club in a single window, and could have been even greater too had their pursuit of Marc Guehi not collapsed on Monday.
