The crazy Lampard coincidence that Enzo has matched after 3 years

Sky Sports have a long interview with Enzo Fernandez out today, in which they notice something really interesting – the midfielder has 27 goals in his first 151 Chelsea appearances. That’s the exact same number as club legend Frank Lampard.

Now, Lampard went up another couple of gears after that. We’re not expecting Enzo to end up on the list of the Premier League’s top scorers like Lampard did. But it’s still a very promising sign of how good his eye for goal is. Just like Lampard, he also has a knack for scoring them at crucial moments – his winner against West Ham last weekend was a perfect example.

“He was an exceptional player and a legend here for Chelsea,” Enzo said.

“I don’t like to be compared to him, because he has achieved a lot more here than I have. He’s an idol. I hope to follow in his footsteps at Chelsea.”

Fans still warming to Enzo at Chelsea

Fans have taken a while to warm to the Argentine, and there’s still a sense that we haven’t figured out how to consistently get the best out of him from a tactical point of view. But scoring goals is the fastest way to endear yourself to any fanbase. He’s also a real battler, which helps too.

Chelsea’s lack of creativity at the moment is a problem. They can often score a goal when they need to, but it doesn’t usually come from dangerous, consistent attacking moves. Their lack of consistency in that department was criticised by podcasters.

Alejandro Garnacho is someone you might look for as a player to make things happen – but he’s in dreadful form. Liam Rosenior had to defend him in today’s press conference, and even promised him more minutes.
