Wolves have flipped a season that once threatened an unwanted Premier League landmark, and with seven games remaining and 21 points still available they could still haul in several of the division’s lowest points totals. ExpressAndStar.com notes that several meagre tallies are now in sight.

An awful start under Vitor Pereira ended with the Portuguese dismissed and former defender Rob Edwards appointed. Edwards’ first matches brought no immediate bounce, and the side stayed rooted to the bottom.

An upturn over the festive period brought results. Wolves cleared Derby County’s 11 from 2007/08, then overtook Southampton’s 12 from last season and Sunderland’s 15 from 2005/06.

They also moved beyond the 16 earned by Sheffield United in 2023/24 and by Huddersfield Town in 2018/19. They now sit level with the tally Aston Villa posted in 2017/18 when they were relegated.

Targets within reach include 19 for Sunderland in 2002/03, 21 for Norwich in 2019/20, 22 for Norwich in 2021/22, 23 for Sheffield United in 2020/21, and 24 for Watford in 1999/00 and Sunderland in 2016/17.

Wolves’ own worst return was 25 in 2011/12, alongside QPR in 2012/13 and Southampton in 2022/23. Mick McCarthy was sacked after a 5-1 loss to West Brom, and Terry Connor could not reverse the slide. Next up are 26 for Bradford in 2000/01, 28 for Leicester in 2001/02 and Watford in 2006/07, and 30 for Cardiff in 2013/14 and QPR in 2014/15.
