“There is a belief…” – Chelsea still hopeful of this transfer deal coming off in final days of January

Matt Law’s piece about Chelsea’s transfer situation this month doesn’t have much to it, simply because the Blues aren’t up to much.
So far they’ve struggled to buy or sell, and it looks like that situation may continue.

One person we know they’ve love to shift is Tyrique George. The winger was very close to a move to Fulham on Deadline Day in the summer, but ended up staying at Stamford Bridge after the deal fell through.
He’s featured very little since, and it’s obvious that a move would be best for both parties. But the Whites have not come back with a fresh offer, and there’s been desperately little interest from anywhere else.
Despite that, Law writes that Chelsea “have fielded interest from England and Europe” and that there “is a belief that a deal will present itself” before the transfer window closes.
Well we’re glad they’re confident. Given how little smoke there has been, it’s hard to imagine there’s much fire. But the final days of the window always see things go up a few gears, so nothing can be ruled out.
It’s notable, and a little worrying, that Law’s piece is so general, and doesn’t mention a single interested team by name. If something was coming, you feel we’d know a little more by now…
The Telegraph journalist also tried to explain the slightly strange Aaron Anselmino situation – the defender has been recalled, but nobody knows quite what for yet.
Law also covered the situation with Jacquet – Chelsea want to buy and Rennes are willing to sell, but it’s hard to see the two sides reaching a compromise in the limited time left in the window.
