Tottenham Hotspur Injury Update Under Thomas Frank: Key Returns On The Horizon

Tottenham Hotspur’s season under new manager Thomas Frank has been defined by excitement and frustration in equal measure. The Danish coach, who succeeded Ange Postecoglou in the summer, has introduced his trademark intensity but has seen his plans disrupted by an unprecedented number of injuries. Several of Spurs’ most important players, including new arrivals, have endured spells on the sidelines, forcing Frank to improvise with his line-ups in the opening weeks.

Below is a comprehensive injury update on the squad, providing insight into who could return soon and what it means for Tottenham Hotspur’s ambitions.

Randal Kolo Muani and Dominic Solanke Edge Closer to Returns

Two of Tottenham Hotspur’s key attacking signings have had their progress stalled by injury. Randal Kolo Muani, brought in on loan from Paris Saint-Germain to add pace and dynamism up front, has managed only a single 13-minute cameo in the Champions League against Villarreal. Just as he appeared ready to return, Frank revealed another setback: “Minor injuries both of them. It’s just too short a turnaround unfortunately.” The French forward is now targeting a return away to Leeds United on 4 October.

Dominic Solanke’s ankle problem has been equally disruptive. The former Bournemouth striker, expected to be a central figure in Frank’s system, suffered the injury in pre-season against Reading. While he has since resumed light training on grass, he was not fit enough for the recent clash with Wolves. Frank reassured supporters last week that it was “an ankle injury that’s just been a little bit tricky. Nothing big. We are relatively positive that it will be relatively quick.” Spurs hope to have him back for the home game against Aston Villa on 19 October.

Defensive Setbacks Continue to Test Squad Depth

Ben Davies remains sidelined with a knee injury despite playing twice for Wales this term. Frank again described the issue as “minor injuries both of them. It’s just too short a turnaround unfortunately,” indicating optimism for a return alongside Kolo Muani against Leeds.

Kota Takai, the Japanese centre-back signed in the summer, is yet to debut due to a plantar fascia injury that ruled him out of pre-season. Frank reported in mid-September that he was “very close” to joining full team training and could be available later in October.

Radu Dragusin, who tore his ACL in February, has rejoined parts of training during the September international break. Frank urged patience: “When you’ve been out of football for nine months, you know, it’s not enough to have a six-week pre-season. You need to take a little bit more time, but it’s positive and some surprise and come back quicker, of course.” His return date is pencilled in for late 2025.

Midfield Concerns With Bissouma and Maddison

Yves Bissouma’s situation is complicated by fitness and disciplinary issues. After limited pre-season action and missing the Super Cup, he is now training on grass but remains outside full sessions. The club hopes he will be available at some point in October.

James Maddison is facing the longest lay-off after rupturing his ACL during a pre-season friendly against Newcastle. Having undergone surgery, the influential midfielder is not expected back before spring or summer 2026.

Kulusevski’s Patience-Testing Recovery

Dejan Kulusevski continues to recover from the knee injury that prematurely ended his previous season. Frank underlined his importance to the squad, saying: “Of course Kulusevski is a top player, I always liked him when I saw him from afar. He is a key player for us, a key player for me. Instead of putting an exact month, I just want him back as soon as possible. The medical guys and Kulusevski are working very hard on that. It’s not tomorrow but hopefully not too far away.” The Swede is expected back before the end of the year.

Tottenham Hotspur’s early-season challenges have been shaped by these injuries, yet Thomas Frank remains optimistic that October will bring positive news for several key figures. With Solanke, Kolo Muani and Davies all nearing fitness, the squad should soon look stronger, providing a timely boost as fixtures pile up.
