Tuma unveils Corinthians statute reform timeline, vote expected by December

On the afternoon of Monday (08), the president of the Corinthians Deliberative Council (CD), Romeu Tuma Júnior, announced the schedule for the long-awaited reform of the club's Statute. In a press conference at Parque São Jorge, the official confirmed that the first presentations of the project will take place later this month.

“Now, in the month of September, the Statute Reform Committee will conclude its work and present the draft project to me, to the presidency of the Council. In October, we will, according to the initial project that you must have already seen, which has been on the website since the reform schedule was created last year, have a month for all analyses to be carried out, a broader debate with some groups, with some leaders, with some collectives that we have around, including to establish the voting methods.”, declared Tuma.

The expectation is that, in the coming days, the Statute Reform Committee will complete the draft and officially present it to the Deliberative Council. In October, a period of debates will be opened with leaders, collectives, council members, and other organized groups to define the voting format. According to the schedule, the text will be submitted to the Council's plenary in November and, in December, to the General Assembly of Members for the final decision.

Tuma also explained that the voting will be organized by thematic blocks, allowing clauses with greater resistance to be analyzed separately, without compromising the progress of the reform as a whole.

“We will coordinate this work so that, when it comes time for voting, we already have a direction set so that we can complete this vote in sequence with this schedule, so that it happens in November in the Council's plenary and, in December, we hope to conclude this reform, with the vote of the General Assembly of Members.”, detailed the president.

“We intend, within this voting structure, to bring both to the Council and to the Assembly a voting model where we can take these clauses, these items that face a bit more resistance, that have more than one round, in a way that they are isolated, as if Congress were voting separately, so that they do not jeopardize the entire reform.”, he continued.

The official emphasized that this methodology prevents the entire project from being compromised if certain clauses do not receive approval. According to him, this approach is essential for the change to finally materialize after years of internal debate.

“These clauses will be voted on separately, always in the same vote, on the same day, but so that, if any clause is not approved or if a different clause is approved from another, it can be incorporated into the project, but not cause harm. Previously, it was done in a single block, the entire project for voting. So, if the council members or the members later understood that there were one, two, ten clauses that were not to the liking of the entire assembly, whether in the Council or later in the general assembly, it ended up harming the reform.”, stated Tuma.

“This is the established schedule. We will make every effort to ensure it is met. This was a promise I made since I was a candidate for the presidency of the Council, that we would carry out this reform, we will do everything possible and, God willing, even the impossible so that it is deliberated this year, within the schedule I set.”, he continued.

In recent months, different groups linked to Corinthians have intensified pressure for changes in the Statute, which has not been updated since 2008. Gaviões da Fiel, the main organized supporters group, even presented its own proposal in 2024, during a public hearing at Parque São Jorge, as well as promoting protests demanding progress in the process.

Another prominent movement is the Coletivo Voz Corinthiana, which advocates for greater participation of non-member fans in internal decisions and for the Statute to be adapted to the General Sports Law. Among the main topics discussed, Romeu Tuma Júnior cited examples of changes that may be included in the new Corinthians Statute with the reform.

“We have some proposals, I'll give you just a few examples so you can understand. For example, the official vote of the Fiel Torcedor, the individual election of council members or by slates, the issue that has now arisen regarding the use of corporate cards, which has never been regulated, neither administratively nor with any statutory provision. The issue of regulation of the hiring of council members' relatives, both for professional roles in our youth sports and as club employees.”, he explained.

If approved, the Statute reform will already be in effect for the next Corinthians presidential election, scheduled for the end of 2026.
