Valencia usually sell before they buy, but this January they moved early on incomings after poor results and Mouctar Diakhaby’s injury. Financial Fair Play room from the summer was used before any exits, though departures remain possible.

According to Superdeporte, Carlos Corberán still wants to strengthen, but the squad list is full after Guido Rodríguez and Unai Núñez arrived. Any upgrade now depends on speeding up outgoings, with Dani Raba, André Almeida and Baptiste Santamaria among the options.

Midfield is crowded after Guido’s arrival and Lucas Beltrán in the No 10 role. Santamaria is now third-choice pivot, Raba has few openings and Almeida is squeezed by Filip Ugrinic’s form, with Javi Guerra the main alternative.

The trio can leave if suitable bids arrive. They will not go at any price, as with Almeida in the summer, and despite his renewal the stance is similar.

Santamaria is well regarded in France by mid-table sides. Whether anyone moves for him this month remains to be seen.

Raba lost his place after a forced change in Pamplona and has barely featured outside the Copa del Rey. He is settled and would only leave for a top-flight offer.

Other little used players could go if a deal suits both sides, though at centre-back or on the wing any exit needs a replacement. Further signings look unlikely unless a first-team slot is freed.

Plan B is to register a youngster via the B team, as with Germán Valera, who wore 30, this window.
