Valencia earned respite with a Copa del Rey last-16 win over Burgos CF, but Corberán’s side remain in the relegation places and the trip to Getafe’s Coliseum carries real jeopardy. January has brought Umar Sadiq, yet a centre-back and a midfielder are still needed.

According to Deportes Cope Valencia, Ghanaian defender Joseph Aidoo would come into contention if he terminates his Celta Vigo contract, which runs to 30 June 2026. He would cover Diakhaby’s absence, and the report adds that Cömert will not be forced out. Tribuna Deportiva reports that Aurèle Amenda is also on the radar.

At 30, Aidoo has featured in three league and two cup matches this season, all of them won. His only LaLiga starts came at Osasuna and against Valencia at Balaídos, a 4-1 victory for the Galicians.

Valencia continue to weigh a broader shortlist that also includes De Haas. There is some unease inside the club as the first half of January has passed without a centre-back secured for the head coach.

The plan has shifted. Diakhaby’s injury prompted a rethink of the profile, and José Copete’s improved form means the search is no longer restricted to left-footed centre-backs, with options who can play on either side now in scope.

Talks have run for weeks over Dutch defender De Haas, contracted to Famalicão until June 2026, and interest extends beyond January. If a deal does not materialise due to the Portuguese club’s demands or a different choice, the 1.94m left-footer could remain a summer target. Gourlay has also held discussions over a loan for Amenda, without success so far.
