Flamengo and River Plate (ARG) are vying for Thiago Almada, with the Flamengo-Vasco rivalry spilling into the market as a potential Vasco move for Facundo Colidio could shape the outcome.

According to Coluna Do Fla, Argentina’s window for incoming signings from abroad is closed, so River cannot currently recruit the Atlético de Madrid (ESP) midfielder. However, selling a player to a foreign club would allow the Buenos Aires side to bring in a replacement from outside.

Vasco are negotiating Colidio for five million dollars, about R$ 25.5 million, and the Argentine club are assessing the offer. If that sale is completed, Eduardo Coudet’s squad could proceed with Almada, though River could also unlock the route by selling a different player abroad.

Flamengo are moving quickly, with director of football José Boto travelling to Argentina to meet the player’s camp. The club hope to complete an agreement this week.

Almada has returned to training in Spain and the international window closes on 11 September.

Meanwhile, Flamengo are also in talks for Brazilian winger Luiz Henrique and are prepared to pay up to 30 million euros, R$ 177 million, to Zenit (RUS).

There is also a suggestion that Vasco’s pursuit is complicating Flamengo’s window. A mooted counter is a Flamengo bid for Colidio to push Vasco to increase their offer, likened to the club’s stance with Palmeiras over Jhon Arias, who was at Wolves (ING).
