Sheffield Wednesday remain in dire straights heading into October

talkSPORT host Jim White has revealed that Sheffield Wednesday owner, Dejphon Chansiri, has remained silent on the club's currently "dire" situation heading into the new month of October.

The Owls' immediate and long-term future very much remains in doubt at this moment in time, with the Thai businessman, who has overseen the club's tumultuous fortunes for over 10 years now, still yet to relinquish his control amid ever-growing discontent from the Wednesday fanbase and those on the outside when assessing his day-to-day running of the club.

At present, several instances of regulation breaches have led to a mass exodus of senior players and staff, a distinct lack of transfer activity due to restrictions and embargoes, as well as a beyond apathetic atmosphere in S6 despite the best efforts of Henrik Pedersen's threadbare squad to achieve survival in the Championship against all odds.

Unsurprisingly, such mismanagement has put the focus of the footballing landscape, particularly in the UK, on developments in this part of the Steel City, with several supporter groups, management staff and players all being extremely vocal regarding the club's drastic plight.

Meanwhile, whilst Chansiri continues to be at the forefront of such headlines, the Wednesday owner continues to keep his cards close to his chest, as was revealed by the aforementioned White on talkSPORT's 'White and Jordan' mid-morning show on Thursday.

Supporters at Hillsborough have made their feelings known towards Chansiri ever since the club was hit with a 12-point penalty in 2020/21 after breaching spending regulations, with the campaign ending in relegation to League One.

The current state of affairs began back in April when it was revealed in March that the players and staff weren't to receive their wage packets in the required time, a development which has occurred in five of the six following months right up to now, with players reportedly threatening strike action.

It has since been reported that a points deduction is "almost inevitable" when the club's current developments are reviewed by an independent commission as youth players and administrative staff were paid, whilst first-team players remain without their month's worth of earnings.

It was reported last month that Wednesday faced the threat of administration if they were unable to repay a sizeable £7.3m loan by September 30th, meaning that a 12-point penalty would automatically be applied.

Yet, whilst Chansiri continues to demand £100m for the club amid reports of stalling talks between himself and ex-Crystal Palace shareholder, John Textor, White revealed on talkSPORT that he, at least, attempted to get the Owls' owner's verdict on circumstances, albeit to no avail.

"I had a word with Dejphon Chansiri, the owner of Sheffield Wednesday," the Scottish reporter stated. "He told me he had nothing to tell me.

"He said that I should contact the football club if I was looking for any information," White added. "Of course, it's dire (what's going on)."

Dejphon Chansiri's latest actions won't surprise many at Sheffield Wednesday

Despite the understandable criticism coming his way, Chansiri's actions will come as very little surprise to those connected to the club or general onlookers.

It was revealed by captain, Barry Bannan, last week, that there had been next-to-no communication from the chairman in recent times as those on the inside remain increasingly worried about how the situation impacts their personal lives as well as the future of one of English football's most historic clubs.

With it looking unlikely that any investor will meet the aforementioned staggering valuation claim, there is one potential saving grace for Owls supporters, which is that the Independent Football Regulator had been given the go-ahead as part of the Football Governance Bill, with the regulator now having the power to oust Chansiri from the Hillsborough boardroom.

On the pitch, Wednesday are currently 23rd in the table and are enjoying a three-game unbeaten run at present, backing up a first win of the season at Portsmouth with credible draws against QPR and Birmingham City.

However, it remains to be seen how the latest set of off-pitch developments impacts morale as the Owls take on an unbeaten Coventry City side on home turf this weekend.
