Enzo Maresca confirms Robert Sanchez will start against Bayern

Away at Bayern is one of the toughest tests in the Champions League, and it will be a brilliant indication of how far this Chelsea team have come.

Maresca has defended his rotation policy in the build-up to the game, after the changes against Brentford didn’t really work.

The Italian made four changes, but took three of those players off at half time with Chelsea struggling to get a foothold in the game.

One position he didn’t rotate was goalkeeper, with Sanchez keeping his place, but sometimes clubs play a different keeper in the cup competitions.

However, Maresca has confirmed Sanchez will start, but stated Filip Jorgensen would play games in both the league and Champions League.

“Tomorrow Robert [Sanchez] will start, but for sure with the amount of games that we have, Filip [Jorgensen] is going to play games in the Premier League, in the Champions League, in the FA Cup, in the Carabao,” he told his pre match press conference.

“We have so many games that for sure Robert cannot play all of them.”

Goalkeeper still an issue for Chelsea?

Despite having the third best defence in the league last season, there are still question marks over the Spain international.

John Obi Mikel can’t understand why Chelsea didn’t replace Sanchez in the summer, and the club had the opportunity to sign AC Milan’s Mike Maignan.

The Spaniard made a couple of very good saves and has started the season reasonably well, but the jury is very much still out on him as he looks to win over Chelsea supporters.
