Ibrox Noise can today reveal the official all-time worst Rangers signing in terms of value and expectation.
Naturally there are different subjective attributes that different people will apply, but for us it’s goals, especially in this guy’s case, for a striker.
We remember Tore Andre Flo, costing £12M. Most remember him as a flop, but guess what. It’s a lie.
Tore Andre Flo may have cost a tonne, but 38 goals in 71 outings doesn’t scream of failure to us. He came to Rangers at a time when we shouldn’t have spent as much, but them’s Dick Advocaat’s choice.
Flo, was in fact, a success. Maybe not full value for £12M, but he did well.
The guy who ACTUALLY earns this tag of worst ever is…
Danilo.
Yes, he cost a grand total of £11M, including wages, over two and a half years, and in that time managed 16 goals.
Mmhmm. 16. That’s just under £1M per goal.
Rangers needed shot of this boy, a guy who gave us basically nothing back. There was a brief burst of form in autumn 2024 when he did bag 7 goals and assists in 11 appearances. And he also scored and assisted the 2-1 win over Prague in 2023.
But in general, Danilo was absolutely shocking value for money whose own father gave us more than he did.
We don’t hate the Brazilian, we believe him to be a nice guy who was certainly unfortunate with injury. But boy did we pay him way too much (£40,000pw) and pay too much for him.
We are very, very glad he’s off the wage bill out in Holland who have option to buy permanently. We hope they take it because we sure as heck don’t want him in the final year of his deal. Worst Rangers signing?
Bon Voyage Danilo Pereira da Silva.
