Aston Villa left-back Lucas Digne is set to join French champions Paris Saint-Germain following an impressive 2025/26 campaign.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the European champions have triggered the release clause in Digne’s contract with Villa, which is reportedly worth €10 million (£8.5m).

The 32-year-old still has two years remaining on his Villa contract, but the clause means the reigning Europa League champions have little power to stop the move if it is activated.

Digne was a key player for Unai Emery’s side last season and was Villa’s first-choice option at left-back for the majority of the campaign.

He started 21 of his 31 appearances in the Premier League and was one of Villa’s standout performers en route to a historic Europa League triumph.

Digne has been performing at a high level, but that hasn’t stopped Villa from planning for the future.

Ian Maatsen, who joined the club from Chelsea in the summer of 2024, is seen as a long-term replacement for Digne.

Both players have been competing for the same spot, so there were growing expectations that one of them would leave during the current transfer window.

With Digne set to make way, Maatsen could become Villa’s first-choice option at left-back, although the club have wasted no time searching for reinforcements.

According to reports, Villa are already in talks with AC Milan over a move for Pervis Estupinan.

The 28-year-old only joined Milan from Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer of 2025, but he could be set for a quick return to the Premier League.

Estupinan will bring plenty of Premier League experience to Villa, having made over 100 appearances for the Seagulls before moving to Italy.

He could be a shrewd replacement for Digne, who is poised to finalise his move in the next few days.

Digne, who is currently on World Cup duty with France, only signed a new contract with Villa last year, and even agreed to reduce his wages.

A return to France will undoubtedly come with a bumper pay rise, although he may have to settle for playing back-up to Nuno Mendes.
