The departure of Pedro ‘Dro’ Fernandez to Paris Saint-Germain was not just a routine youth exit for Barcelona

In fact, according to SPORT, the move triggered genuine frustration inside the dressing room, with Gavi emerging as the most vocal figure unhappy with how the situation was handled.

Once news of Dro’s decision became known internally, disappointment spread quickly.

The sporting leadership were said to be unhappy with losing a young talent who had shown promise whenever he was given opportunities. But the strongest emotional response came from within the squad itself.

Gavi, known for his intense personality and strong loyalty to teammates, felt the club had failed to protect one of its own.

What was said?

Those close to the dressing room say Gavi believed Dro’s exit was avoidable. In his view, the player’s minutes were poorly managed during a key phase of the season, leaving the youngster uncertain about his role and future.

The frustration boiled over after a training session, when Gavi directly raised his concerns with members of the coaching staff.

As such, it was not a calm exchange, as the moment carried tension, with Gavi clearly convinced that a different approach could have kept Dro at the club.

The Copa del Rey tie against Guadalajara was repeatedly referenced in internal discussions.

This is because Dro did not play a single minute in that match, and his visible disappointment did not go unnoticed by teammates. For Gavi, it was a lack of trust at a crucial moment.

Furthermore, Gavi was particularly unhappy that Barcelona sanctioned the move for just over €8 million, effectively closing the door on further evaluating a player who had surprised many when called upon.

From the coaching side, manager Hansi Flick sees the matter differently.

He considers the case completely closed and rejects the idea that Dro was treated unfairly.
