Brentford Under-21s were held to a 1-1 draw by Sheffield Wednesday at Gtech Community Stadium on Monday evening in the Professional Development League as Hakon Valdimarsson, Rico Henry, Ji-soo Kim, Michael Kayode, Mathias Jensen, Paris Maghoma, Yunus Konak and Gustavo Nunes played from the start.

Brentford were dominant from start to finish but were made to rue missed chances as a second-half goal against the run of play ensured the spoils were shared.

The Bees were playing their second game this season at Gtech Community Stadium following their last-gasp win over Bristol City in March.

Romelle Donovan was looking to continue his fine form and the winger fashioned the opening chance as he set up Jensen, who whipped an effort which clipped the crossbar.

Maghoma was next to try his luck and, following a good team move, the midfielder created space and curled goalwards, with his strike hitting the crossbar.

The Bees were firmly in control of the game, but a loose back pass from Andre Grey on 10 minutes allowed George Brown a one-on-one chance against Valdimarsson. The attacker did beat the Brentford goalkeeper, but he failed to find the net.

The deadlock was broken on 19 minutes by the home side as a delightful chipped cross from Maghoma found Iwan Morgan in the box. The striker's headed effort was initially saved by Owen Grainger, but he could do nothing about the rebound.

Morgan had an opportunity to double the lead as he caressed a fine effort towards the far corner of the net, but Grainger made an excellent save to tip the ball around the post.

On 36 minutes, Morgan was positioned well in the box to receive a great cross from Gustavo Nune,s but his firm header flew just over the bar.

The second half began in a similar fashion as the home side continued to dominate possession.

Against the run of play, the away side levelled with their first chance of the second period as substitute Mackenzie Maltby headed in from close range.

On 87 minutes, second-half substitute Riley Owen went close as he fired goalwards from the edge of the box, but Grainger got down well to make the stop.

That was how the game would end as Neil MacFarlane's side had to settle for a point.
