Manchester City’s memorable 5-1 win over Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium has been awarded the Everest LMA Performance of the Week award.
The precious top-flight triumph for Andrée Jeglertz’s side was selected as the winner by The League Managers Association’s panel and it’s the third time our head coach has won the prize this season.
With the Blues sitting nine points clear of Sonia Bompastor’s side at the top of the league table heading into the clash, the fantastic success further strengthened our pursuit of the title.
Kerolin lit the blue touch paper on 13 minutes when she teed the ball up from a corner to drill a half-volley into the bottom corner.
Although City had to defend valiantly after sustained Chelsea pressure, Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw euphorically doubled our lead on the counter-attack when she battled into the box and dispatched past Hannah Hampton.
We held that lead going into half-time and Brazil forward Kerolin scored twice within 10 minutes after the interval to pull the Blues further ahead and complete her hat-trick.
Her second of the afternoon saw her collect the ball in our own half before driving the length of the field to arrive into the box and chipping exquisitely into the net.
She then tucked home a Lauren Hemp cross to secure her treble, and although Chelsea pulled a goal back, Vivianne Miedema rounded off the scoring when heading into the net from a corner.
It means City are now 10 points clear at the division’s summit approaching the final eight WSL games of the season.
Many congratulations to Andrée, his staff and players for winning Everest LMA Performance of the Week!
