Corinthians call up Copinha duo to train with the first team

Corinthians has started integrating young players from the youth categories into the professional squad's training sessions after the Copinha tournament. Two athletes who participated in the competition were called to work with the main group: the defender Iago Machado, 16, and the left-back and midfielder Guilherme Pires, 19.

In addition to them, goalkeeper Matheus Corrêa, also 19, and forward Léo Amistá, 16, had already been participating in activities under the evaluation of Dorival Júnior's technical team. The information was initially released by Rádio Itatiaia.

Iago Machado and Guilherme Pires are expected to continue training regularly with the professional squad at least until the start of the regular youth categories calendar. Both ended their participation in the Copinha in the spotlight, with special emphasis on the defender, and are taking advantage of the limited options in the main squad to try to gain space.

Among the observed names, Léo Amistá appears as one of the surprises. The forward did not participate in the Copinha but was the only youth player called up for the professional team's pre-season. Capable of playing both on the left side and more centrally, the young player impressed and remains integrated with the group. Matheus Corrêa, on the other hand, follows a different process: since last year, he alternates training with the professional goalkeepers and plays regularly only for the Under-20 team.

So far, none of the four athletes have been registered for the Paulista Championship. Corinthians has registered only eight players on the List B of the competition, a space reserved for players up to 21 years old formed in the youth categories, all of whom already have experience with the main squad.

In terms of generation, Iago Machado and Léo Amistá belong to the group of athletes born in 2009. Guilherme Pires and Matheus Corrêa, on the other hand, are part of the 2006 generation. The two older players are entering their last regular cycle in the youth categories and will age out at the end of the 2027 Copinha. The younger ones remain eligible to defend the youth team until the 2030 edition of the tournament.
