Corinthians began their 2026 Copa do Brasil with a 1-0 win away to Barra on Tuesday, moving in front in the tie. The result further burnishes their record in competition openers.
Meu Timao highlights the club's consistency in first matches. Across 31 editions they have 17 wins, eight draws and six defeats, a 63.44% return.
In those games they have scored 50 goals, an average of 1.61 per match, and conceded 19, an average of 0.61. The last negative debut came in 2023, a 2-0 loss to Remo at the Mangueirão in the third round.
Corinthians levelled that deficit in the second leg and advanced on penalties, then eliminated Atlético and América, both from Minas Gerais, before falling to São Paulo in the semi-final. Last year they launched the title run with a 1-0 win at Novorizontino, repeating the scoreline at home.
They then saw off Palmeiras, Athletico Paranaense and Cruzeiro, and beat Vasco da Gama 2-1 in the final to claim their fourth crown. The long list of openers also includes a 6-0 at Barras in 2008 and defeats to Santos in 2015 and Sampaio Corrêa in 1989.
