Corinthians’ Deliberative Council meeting to vote on statute reform was halted on Monday night at Parque São Jorge after shouting and shoving between councillors. The session ended before proposals were presented, with council president Romeu Tuma Júnior saying the matter would go to a General Assembly under article 45.

Before any vote, club president Osmar Stabile levelled serious allegations about Tuma’s conduct, saying he had been pressured with profanity during a dinner and faced interference. He called legal affairs director Pedro Luis Soares, who backed his account. According to Globo.com, councillor Hailton dos Santos Cunha then asked for the meeting to be suspended and the ballot postponed.

Tuma called for order and insisted the focus should be the reform vote, not the exchange of accusations. As he spoke, two councillors began pushing, triggering a disturbance that stopped proceedings. Some members went to the stage to demand explanations, and doctor Jorge Kalil shouted insults.

With no prospect of resuming, Tuma closed the meeting and said the vote would be referred to a General Assembly, as permitted by article 45 of the statute, which allows an extraordinary assembly to approve changes once the council recognises need. Members will now be asked to decide on each point.

The reform package included potential voting rights for Fiel Torcedor and the option of turning Corinthians into a SAF. The council will call a ballot in the coming days, and there remains a possibility of court action over alleged irregularities in the process.
