Corinthians tracking Flamengo youth midfielder playing in European football

Corinthians remains active in the transfer market seeking reinforcements for the midfield, a need highlighted by Dorival Júnior after the 1-1 draw with São Paulo last Sunday (18th). One of the names being considered is Alisson, who was not listed in the last two games of the rival in the Paulistão 2026.

Now, a new name on Timão's list is the midfielder Vinicius Souza from Wolfsburg, Germany. The information, initially reported by Ge and confirmed by Central do Timão, indicates that Corinthians is monitoring the situation of the 26-year-old athlete, who was signed by the German club in mid-2025 for 15 million euros, after standing out at Sheffield United, England. He was a starter at the beginning of his tenure with the Wolves but lost his spot after the departure of coach Paul Simonis, who was one of the main supporters of his football.

Vinicius Souza is a product of Flamengo's youth system, having played alongside Hugo Souza, Matheuzinho, and Gustavo Henrique, and also worked with the now football manager Renan Bloise, also at the Rio de Janeiro club. At the German club, he played 14 matches, 12 as a starter and two as a substitute, receiving three yellow cards, averaging nearly one every five games.

A potential deal would be considered in the form of a loan, as Timão, according to statements by Marcelo Paz and president Osmar Stabile, has reinforced a policy of signings without major investments. The strategy includes only small fees in specific cases, such as the arrivals of midfielder Matheus Pereira and forward Kaio César, which initially cost a combined R$ 4.9 million, both on a one-season loan.

So far, two midfield options have been scouted and publicly mentioned by Corinthians: Alisson and Vinicius Souza himself. Both are considered possible replacements for the departure of Maycon and also to cover the absence of José Martínez, who is still resolving bureaucratic issues in Venezuela. For the position, the club has already confirmed the arrival of Matheus Pereira, who made his debut last Sunday against São Paulo, playing for about 30 minutes.
