According to TuttoHellasVerona, Tony D’Amico has moved into pole position to become Roma’s sporting director as the club prepare to replace Frederic Massara.
The outgoing Atalanta executive is leaving this summer, with Cristiano Giuntoli’s imminent appointment in Bergamo set to succeed him. He is now ahead of Verona’s Sean Sogliano, who had been in the frame but now appears to have fallen behind.
The move would make sense on footballing grounds. D’Amico worked alongside Gian Piero Gasperini at Atalanta, forging a productive partnership during one of the most successful periods in the club’s history.
Gasperini has made clear he wants a sporting director he trusts and can collaborate with closely, and D’Amico fits that brief.
Milan had also pursued D’Amico, but Roma’s interest appears to have gathered momentum, amid additional speculation that the Rossoneri could stick with former Lazio director Igli Tare.
