Valencia have tied down David Otorbi for the next two seasons, with an additional extension linked to a full first-team breakthrough, despite his LaLiga minutes remaining at zero this campaign.
Management of his case has been unconventional since he became the club’s youngest debutant. According to Superdeporte, he first appeared under Rubén Baraja in the Copa del Rey at 16 years, two months and 19 days, then logged a few LaLiga minutes.
This season he was expected to step in gradually, yet that progression has stalled. He has trained regularly with the seniors and made several squads, but has not featured, and Carlos Corberán has not turned to the B team or handed any debuts.
Across the last two years he has matured in areas missing at the time of his debut. Splitting last season between Juvenil A and the reserves in Segunda RFEF helped him adapt to senior duels and lead the División de Honor side.
Physically ahead at 16, he has since added more top speed, the strength to battle full-backs and sharper decision-making, compared with a raw first outing. The club have continued to back his development and, despite tempting offers, player and club have committed to each other. He might carry greater status among academy players in pre-season.
