After bidding farewell to Borussia Dortmund, German international Julian Brandt has reportedly been proposed to Lazio.

Julian Brandt’s Background & Stats

The 30-year-old is a Bremen native who had spells at the academies of Borgfeld, Oberneul, and Wolfsburg before joining Bayer Leverkusen, where he cemented himself as one of the most exciting attackers in the Bundesliga. In 2019, he completed a €25 million move to Dortmund and went on to make 307 appearances for the club, contributing with 57 goals and 70 assists.

Brandt’s experience at the Signal Iduna Park has now come to an end, with his departure confirmed at the end of the month.

Brandt Offered to Lazio

According to Italian journalist Damiano Er Faina (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), the German player’s services have been offered to several clubs, including Lazio. But while Brandt would be open to joining the Biancoclesti, the Aquile are reluctant to meet his salary request.

Julian Brandt has been offered to Lazio. His salary was considered a bit too high, between €2.5 and €3 million. Lazio could cover him if they wanted; his agent is contacting several clubs. The player would be willing to come. I don’t know who made this offer, but relations with his agents are good.

Where Would Brandt Fit in Gattuso’s Plans

Brandt originally features as an attacking midfielder, but he’s also accustomed to playing on the wings, especially on the left side. Gennaro Gattuso has requested an understudy for Mattia Zaccagni, but the German international surely wouldn’t settle for a secondary role. Nevertheless, his arrival would help the incoming Lazio manager to make a swift transition to a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Why Brandt to Lazio Remains Unlikely

Based on the figures reported by Er Faina, Brandt’s wage demands are relatively modest for a player of caliber, and with Alessio Romagnoli leaving the club, there could be some additional room on the wage bill. But between the club’s tight budget and Claudio Lotito’s increasingly stingy transfer policy, Lazio will likely end up missing out on the opportunity.
