Diogo Gonçalves has joined Konyaspor on a deal running for two and a half seasons. According to Glorioso 1904, the Central Anatolia club confirmed the move on social media after the 28-year-old completed medicals on Wednesday.
With the transfer window still open in Türkiye, Konyaspor moved to sign the former Benfica winger, who was a free agent after ending his Real Salt Lake contract in the United States. The switch takes him back to European football.
Konyaspor sit 14th in the league after an inconsistent campaign. They did enjoy a lift this week, beating third-division Aliagas FAS 5-0 in the Türkiye Cup.
A Seixal academy graduate, Gonçalves broke into Benfica’s first team and was part of the 2022/23 title-winning squad. He later left Benfica for a series of domestic and overseas spells.
His career has included Nottingham Forest, Famalicão, Copenhagen and most recently Real Salt Lake. The Konyaspor switch represents the sixth step of his professional journey after Benfica, and he will now seek regular minutes to aid the club’s objectives across the second half of the season.
