Largie Ramazani ended a nine-month wait with a 93rd-minute penalty at Mestalla, sealing Valencia’s second successive win over Espanyol and bringing back his somersaults.

The Belgian winger, on loan from Leeds, had not scored since 28 April last season, when he hit a brace for Leeds against Bristol in the Championship.

Before the kick, Hugo Duro and Pepelu, already substituted, urged that Ramazani take it after repeated penalty drills at Paterna had shown his precision.

“Yes, I looked over because I trusted him. As soon as the penalty was given I was going to say he should take it. He is working very well. He was grateful to everyone, almost emotional. You can see the commitment he is showing. He is going to give us more joy,” he told VCF Media.

Duro and Pepelu are penalty specialists for Valencia, and their call proved pivotal at a delicate moment.
