Barcelona have reached an agreement to sign Roony Bardghji despite long-term interest from Manchester United in the 19-year-old winger.
United were reported to be scouting Bardghji at “every game” in January 2024 after the youngster impressed for FC Copenhagen against Erik ten Hag’s side earlier in the campaign.
He scored the winner from the bench in a pulsating 4-3 match in the Champions League which effectively ruled out qualification to the knockout phase for the Red Devis.
There was also interest from Premier League rival Tottenham Hotspur with Bardghji revealing a move “could happen” to the Premier League.
However, the Swede suffered a devastating knee injury in May that year, ruling him out for up to a year and putting an to any immediate plans to move to a bigger club in Europe.
Bardghji returned to action earlier this summer and the links with an exit from Denmark resurfaced as he only has six months remaining on his contract with FC Copenhagen.
United and Spurs were again reported to be interested in securing a cut-price deal for the ‘Swedish Messi’, who was free to enter negotiations with prospective suitors over a free transfer in January.
But it is La Liga champions Barcelona who have jumped the queue ahead of their English competitors, moving quickly to strike a deal with Copenhagen, rather than the Danes risk losing their starlet for nothing in six months time.
Fabrizio Romano reveals the Catalan club have reached a “verbal agreement” with Bardghji and an official deal will be “sealed from next week.”
Tweet: “Roony Bardghji to Barcelona, here we go! Deal now confirmed as verbal agreement is done and will be sealed from next week.
Barça will pay €2m fixed fee plus add-ons and sell-on clause for FC Copenhagen talent. Long term deal sealed with the Swedish talented winger.”
Barcelona will pay a fixed fee of £1.7 million with further add-ons and a sell-on percentage for FC Copenhagen from any future transfer.
